Homeowners Insurance Information
Your home is where your heart—and much of your money—is. Ensuring your home and belongings are protected is essential. Many Floridians who live by the coast or further inland experience storm or hurricane damage and homeowners insurance can help you bounce back after a covered event like a fire, hurricane or other covered event.
What Is Homeowners Insurance?
Homeowners coverage is a package policy that includes both home protection and liability coverage. Four essential protections are typical with homeowners insurance, including:
· Property protection—This portion of your policy may help pay to repair or rebuild your home and any other structures on your property if it’s damaged or destroyed by fire, hail, lightning or other disaster listed in the policy. Damages caused by hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes are typically not covered under a standard policy. We can help you secure additional protections like flood, windstorm and earthquake insurance.
· Personal property protection—This portion of the property protection component of your policy may help pay for furniture, clothing, sports equipment and other personal items stolen or destroyed in a covered loss. Your personal property protections may be subject to limits. If you have expensive or high-value items, you may need to purchase a personal property endorsement or floater to insure them properly.
· Liability protection—This portion of your home insurance policy may help cover the costs of medical bills and lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage that you or your family members cause to others. It can also pay for guest injuries or illnesses sustained on your property. The liability portion of your policy may also help pay your court costs and any awards up to your policy’s limit. Some people may buy an additional umbrella insurance policy for broader coverage, including claims for libel and slander.
· Additional living expenses protection—This portion of your home policy may help pay your living costs if you must live elsewhere due to damage from a covered disaster. ALE coverage may pay your hotel bills, restaurant meals and other living expenses up to your policy’s amount.
There may be additional coverages you need to be added to your home insurance policy, such as water and sewer backup coverage and scheduled items riders. Be sure to talk to a McKee Insurance Agency team member today to discuss your unique home insurance needs.
